Wax Melt Safety Tips
Our wax melts can fill your home with warmth and delightful fragrance, but safety should always come first. Follow these essential tips for a worry-free experience:
- Never leave a wax warmer unattended while it’s in use. Always turn it off before leaving the room.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidental burns or ingestion.
- Place your wax warmer on a stable, heat-resistant surface and ensure it’s positioned away from flammable objects.
- Do not eat wax melts. They are for fragrance use only.
- Store wax melts in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, to maintain their quality, color, and scent.
- Keep the warmer away from water sources and avoid placing it near hanging edges to reduce the risk of spills or accidents.
By adhering to these safety tips, you can enjoy your wax melts with peace of mind.
Wax Warmer Usage Instructions
Enjoy your wax melts safely and effectively by following these usage guidelines:
- Use only a wax warmer designed for melting wax. Do not add water to the wax.
- Place one wax melt in the warmer's dish or tray, ensuring it doesn’t overflow.
- Limit usage to 3–4 hours at a time to avoid overuse or overheating.
- Reuse your wax melt until the fragrance fades. Once the scent dissipates, remove the wax residue and replace it with a fresh wax melt.
- To remove solidified wax, briefly turn on the warmer for less than a minute to soften the wax at the base. This makes it easier to remove in one piece.
- Always allow the wax warmer to cool completely before handling or adding new wax melts.
By following these instructions, you’ll maximize both safety and enjoyment while using your wax melts.
Changing Your Wax Melt
There are two common methods for removing used wax melts: the hot (liquid) method and the cold (solid) method. Follow these steps to start fresh with your warmer:
-
Hot Method (Liquid Wax):
Turn Off your wax warmer. While the wax is still liquid, place two cotton balls in the warmer’s tray to absorb the wax. Discard the cotton balls, then use a paper towel to wipe away any remaining residue. This method works best for warmers without removable lids or plugins. Be careful with this method as the warmer tray will be hot - we recommend waiting until it has cooled slightly, then take care handling.
-
Cold Method (Solid Wax):
If the wax has hardened, briefly turn on the warmer or light the tea light for 10–30 seconds. This softens the wax, making it easier to remove as a single piece. Gently press the wax to pop it out in a semi-solid form. Use a paper towel to clean away any leftover residue.
Both methods ensure your warmer is ready for a new wax melt while keeping the process safe and mess-free.
Wax Melt Storage
To keep your wax melts in the best condition, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. This prevents cracking, melting, or loss of fragrance. Keep your melts dust-free by storing them in their original tin, clam-shell, or melt bar wrapper packaging.
Re-Purposing Wax Melts
Even after the scent of your wax melts has faded in your electric warmer, they may still have a subtle lingering fragrance that can be repurposed:
- Freshen Up Drawers or Cupboards: Place the solidified wax in an organza bag, cloth pouch, or envelope, and tuck it into a linen cupboard, drawer, shoe cabinet, or even a pair of smelly shoes to reduce odours. This will help keep the area smelling pleasant.
- Prevent Stains: Ensure the wax does not come into direct contact with fabrics or surfaces to avoid fragrance oil stains.
- Avoid Food Storage Areas: For hygiene reasons, do not use repurposed wax melts near food items.
- Bin Freshener: Place used wax melts at the bottom of waste bins to neutralize unpleasant odours. Use one or two melts for smaller bins or combine scents for larger bins for a fresh, eco-friendly solution.
- Bathroom and Toilet Air Fresheners: Use wax melts as air fresheners in small spaces like bathrooms or toilets. Place them in a heat-safe container or on a plate for a subtle fragrance boost. Replace them periodically for the best results. Our small concrete hearts are perfect for this.
- Car Fresheners: Create personalized car air fresheners by placing wax melts a repurposed old spice jar (or similar) the ones with holes in the top. Place them in your car for a delightful scent on the go.
With these simple and creative ideas, you can extend the life of your wax melts and enjoy their fragrance in innovative ways.
