I have a passion for creating things with my own two hands such as; jewellery, knitting, pottery and even making my own felt. I strive to create something that makes other people feel better about themselves when they wear it or look at it. I believe strongly that feeling good about yourself matters; and if slipping on a nice piece of jewellery, or scarf, or beanie makes you feel a little more special, a little more confident, a little more attractive than I’ve fulfilled one of my goals. Things that have been handmade hopefully hold meaning not only to me but to those who buy them. Violet Matters is the fertile ground where my creative spirit can soar, crash & burn, and then soar again.
Originally, I began designing our own jewellery out of a sense of frustration at the mass produced options available. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing a piece of jewellery that you own parading around on someone else. Next I rediscovered my love of knitting and creating handcrafted pottery. Being creative is highly addictive the more you create, the more creative you become. At the heart of Violet Matters is the desire to create unique one-of-a-kind original handcrafted pieces. Time, effort & joy goes into each individual item that I make so you can be sure that your piece of jewellery, scarf, beanie or piece of pottery was made just for you.
For such a seemingly small and inconsequential 'thing', something that has been handmade seems to have more meaning & has the power to make you feel unique and special.
— VIOLET MATTERS
Once upon a time, another lifetime ago we lived in NSW and for a short time in outback QLD. Forget mass produced there often weren’t any viable shopping options for different original pieces of jewellery, accessories or unique one-of-a-kind handcrafted pottery or pretty bibs-and-bobs. Also, budgetary constraints often meant that things like jewellery or unique handcrafted wares were luxuries that we could ill afford. From all of this the seed for what has now become Violet Matters was planted.
Violet Matters Jewellery: Each of my jewellery collections is inspired by the things that I love and treasure and are reflections of my desire to make other people feel good about themselves. Each piece is made as if it is being made especially for my best friend or loved one. Each piece of jewellery is handmade from components sourced from around the world and I pride myself on utilising Fair Trade products where I can.
I make a variety of jewellery, but primary focus on cameos, cabochons and pendants. I also have a range of felt necklaces which are fantastic for year round versatility. I like working with stone, wood, felt, resin and clay. This year I have begun making my own clay pendants which will be available soon.
Violet Matters Knitting: I like the idea of taking a piece of wool and making it into something awesome that I can wear. This year I have begun adding handmade scarves and beanies to my creative repertoire. I have tentatively nicknamed them ‘fuggly-snugglys’ because some of them are so daggy as to be totally cool. I am about to revisit the long forgotten leg warmer – which I always thought was so fantastic (bring back the 80s please).
Violet Matters Pottery: Working the clay, taking it from a literal ‘blob’ and creating something unique is a true gift to the creative spirit. The limitless nature of clay is quite addictive, if I do say so myself. This year I am planning to add some select handmade clay items to Violet Matters. At present I am working on a number of clay pendants, that should be available for sale via my Etsy store https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/VioletMatters But I have plans and dreams of much much more and am busy working on a number of larger projects.
I pride myself on outstanding customer service and I look forward to providing you with some wonderful pieces of handcrafted jewellery, pottery, felt or knitting. Be sure to check out our blog from time to time as we regularly post articles, specials and coupons that can be redeemed during that month.
